Team Ecology - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Team Ecology all about?

A:
We are a group of BBR members that care about our planet. We have banded together as Team Ecology to help preserve the Earth's natural resources and assist biodiversity research, education and conservation worldwide.

Q: How does Team Ecology work?

A:
Our energy is currently focused on the EcologyFund project. As a team, we communicate via the General Distributed Computing forum of AskDg. We welcome you to come dialog with us in the forum and to join our team.

Q: Where did this FAQ come from?

A:
This FAQ is based on the original Team Ecology FAQ at www.dslreports.com ('DSLR'). This FAQ has followed Team Ecology after the team moved from its original home at DSRL to to AskDg.

We would like to acknowledge contributions made over the years by various DSLR members such as Gargoyle, KeysCapt, grobinette and Cop for several of the Q & A's.

We hope this new FAQ will serve Team Ecology well. Please submit additional questions you think are valuable.

Q: What is the EcologyFund?

A:
Team Ecology is trying to help save precious nature, by donating small pieces of wilderness every day. We do this by clicking a few 'donation-buttons' on the EcologyFund.com website, a process which takes almost no time...really! (you should be done within a minute or two ... unless you want to learn more about a specific project, news item or one of the sponsors)

Clicking the buttons makes the donation of land possible by viewing some ad banners from the sponsors of the specific project. All money is paid by the sponsors, so being a member is completely free and you can donate to multiple projects every single day! (and once again: it isn't taking a lot of time either!)

How it works (as written by EcologyFund.com itself)

In this way, Team Ecology is already making quite a difference! Just look at our team's total!

Q: Why EcologyFund?

A:
Why Eco? Certainly a good and valid question!

Team Ecology member MgKnight gave a great answer to this very question once.

Read his thoughts about Team Ecology right here at DSLR.

Q: How to click?

A:
On the EcologyFund website there are various button types, namely those that will add to your personal total and those that will add to the 'general site account'.

The buttons like the ones show in this image are the ONLY ONES that add to your totals.

The other links or buttons on the EcologyFund page add to other worthy projects (like helping to clean the air) but do not add to your total. There is however nothing that stops you from clicking those as well

Q: How can I join?

A:
Joining Team Ecology is actually very simple:

1. The first thing you have to do is to sign up as a member at EcologyFund.com, more specific instructions can be found on this page.

2. If you're an EcologyFund member and logged in, all you have to do to join our ever-growing team is the following:

* Visit this page

* Select the 'Clubs and Fans' option in the selectbox and click 'Go'

* Lookup our team name ("DSL Reports Ecology") and click on the "join" standing right after our team name

Lastly you can (if you like it) post a message in the General Distributed Computing forum so that we can give you an official welcome to the team!

If you want to save nature faster, it's also possible to sign up for a paid membership which will increase the amount of nature you'll save daily. There's no obligation of any kind though!

Q: How often can I click?

A:
You can click the group of buttons, once a day. A new day starts at 12:00 P.M. PST.

Of course, you can always follow the other links to "plant a tree", "reduce SO2", "search" and "take action" as well!

Q: Can I run this on multiple machines?

A:
The Ecologyfund site is designed so that each user clicks only once per day. This is clearly stated on each page of the site. To do otherwise is cheating, and risks CANCELLATION OF THE ENTIRE TEAM!

(This with the exception that your 'better half' for example, is welcome to help as well with his/her own account but the general rule is: ONE account per user only!)

If you still want to save more: please tell your family and friends to come over!

Q: Where can I find my personal stats?

A:
You can find your personal stats (when you're logged in) on the EcologyFund.com website, on the left side of the screen.

Depending on the page the stats are on the top left, or just below the standard navigation links of the EcologyFund.com website.

About Stats Updates:

Your personal totals update real time; The site itself updates at 12 midnight EST.

Q: How can I post my stats in the GDC forum?

A:
You can view your stats on the EcologyFund.com website when you're logged in.

If you want to post your statistics in the General Distributed Computing forum, you can select your statistics from the EcologyFund.com website and simply "Copy & Paste" them in a reply.

If you're the first person of the day to post something you can of course also post a new thread, named something like "Wednesday Clicks"

With the name depending on the actual day of course. wink1.gif

Q: Where can I find the stats of our Team Ecology?

A:
You can find the team stats just below you're personal stats (see above) or you can visit this specific page

Q: How can I remember to donate every day?

A:
1. You can add the EcologyFund shortcut to your desktop, for more information visit this page.

2. Visit the General Distributed Computing forum every day ... almost every day a 'reminder' is posted by one of our members.

Q: Any recommended links for this project?

A:

EcologyFund Overall Group Winners

The Ecological Footprint Calculator

Eco-Friendly Tips

Q: I still have some questions left, where can I find the answers?

A:
You can always post a message in the General Distributed Computing forum. This is the forum where you can ask all your Team EcologyFund related questions.

If you still have very specific questions about EcologyFund.com itself you can also take a look at their own FAQ page.

Q: I'm listed under name 'X', how can I change it to 'Y' ?

A:
To change your details, you've got to delete the so-called "cookie" which is stored on your computer first.

This "cookie" is used by the Ecologyfund.com website to keep you logged in and to know who you are and what your stats are.

To recover your existing totals and to change your name you've got to do the following:

Sign-up again with exactly the same e-mail address that you used the first time you became an EcologyFund member.

Except for your e-mail address you can change your name or any other personal details, just as long as your e-mail address stays the same!

This way the system will know who you are again, it will log you in (listing you with your new name!) and restore your old totals.

Q: I'm not logged in anymore! Help, my stats are gone!

A:
This is probably because the so-called "cookie" which is stored on your computer has in some way been deleted.

This "cookie" is used by the Ecologyfund.com website to keep you logged in and to know who you are and what your stats are.

You must do the following to recover your old totals, when the cookie has been deleted:

Sign-up again with exactly the same e-mail address that you used the first time you became an EcologyFund member. You can change your name or any other personal details, just as your e-mail address stays the same!

This way the system will know who you are again, it will log you in and restore your old totals.

Q: Who Should I contact if there is a problem with the Ecology Fund Site?

A:
If there is a problem with the site, please e-mail: webmaster@ecologyfund.com
